Do you suffer from anxiety when riding or competing? Competition nerves can be a healthy thing but for some they are crippling and take away the fun from what should be an enjoyable experience. Even some top riders have seen sports psychologists to help them deal with their nerves showing it is not just the amateur that is affected.
One of the problems with anxiety or nerves is that it is not brought about by conscious thought so many believe that nothing can be done to help this. EFT however is a therapy where the aim is to lower anxiety levels by tapping into the subconscious. EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques. To lower anxiety levels specific acupuncture points are tapped on while you think of the anxiety you want to release. As you tap through the points repeating statements relating to your stress you stimulate the amygdala, which is the part of the brain associated with fear and negativity. As your stress is released positive statements are then used to change these subconscious thoughts to a healthier more relaxed way of thinking.
So the question is what is more scary the activity that makes you nervous or the thought of addressing these nerves.
